Prof. Claudio Borghi (Italy) and Prof. Antonio Coca (Spain)

Prof. Claudio Borghi
Claudio Borghi is Professor of Medicine at the University of Bologna.
He received his medical degree at the University of Bologna and completed his clinical fellowship at the Department of Cardiology and then at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of the University of Bologna.
His research experience is mainly focused on cardiovascular medicine with a focus on the clinical epidemiology of CV risk factors and the pharmacological and therapeutic aspects of hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure.
He is currently Chief of the Department of Medicine of the Policlinico S.Orsola-Malpighi-Bologna and Head of the Hypertension Unit and the ESH Excellence Center for hypertension.
He is the Past-President of the Italian Society of Hypertension and the Foundation for Hypertension Research of the same Society.
Dr.Borghi was the head of the post-graduate Medical School on Respiratory diseases.
He is currently the head of the post-graduate medical school on Emergency Medicine.
Dr.Borghi is the scientific coordinator of the PhD program on Health and Technology of the University of Bologna.
He is member of the Executive Council of the International Society of Hypertension and the European Society of Hypertension.
Dr.Borghi is member of the Nucleus of the ESC Working Group on Cardiovascular Therapeutics.
Prof.Borghi is member of the Editorial Board of several scientific journals (PLOS ONE, J Hypertension, International J of Hypertension, BMC Medicine, Medicine) and is member of the board of reviewers for the European Heart Journal, New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Hypertension, Circulation, British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, American Journal of Hypertension, American Journal of Medicine, Atherosclerosis, Journal of Endocrinology, International Journal of Cardiology, Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
He has a broad experience in the organization and conduction of all phases clinical trial research and has served as principal Investigator of many large morbidity and mortality trials, interventional trials and epidemiological surveys in hypertension, hyperuricemia, coronary artery disease and atherosclerotic disease.
Dr.Borghi is member of the Working Group of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutic and member of the writing committee for the guidelines about the management of cardiovascular diseases during pregnancy of the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr.Borghi is actually member of the board of reviewers for the ESC-ESH Guidelines for the treatment of Arterial Hypertension.
Dr.Borghi is ordinary and honorary member of many international scientific societies (ISH, ESH, ESC, ASH, AHA, Venezuelan Society of Cardiology, Mexican Society of Cardiology).
He is Scientific Fellow of the American Heart Association and European Society of Cardiology.
Prof.Borghi is author and co-author of 453 peer-review scientific publications and many other scientific contributions (manuscripts, book chapters, monographies, e-books) in the field of hypertension, CV risk factors and drug treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Prof. Antonio Coca
Antonio Coca is Emeritus Professor of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Barcelona, Spain. He is Past-Chief of the Hypertension and Vascular Risk Unit of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, Spain.
He obtained his MD and PhD degree from the University of Barcelona, Spain. Professor Coca is past-President of the Spanish Society of Hypertension, honorary member of the Latin American Society of Hypertension, the Central American Society of Hypertension, the Argentinian Society of Hypertension, the Venezuelan Society of Hypertension, the Peruvian Society of Cardiology and the Portuguese Society of Hypertension.
Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. In 2007 he was elected member of the Scientific Council of the European Society of Hypertension, where he is responsible for relationships with Latin America serving currently as “Executive-Officer”.
He is the past-Chair of the ESH WG on the Brain & Hypertension, past-Chair of the ESC Council on Hypertension, and past-member of the Committee for Practice Guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology.
Professor Coca is Editor or co-Editor of 58 books on various topics within the field of hypertension.
He has published more than 500 papers in international journals and has presented more than 450 invited lectures at international and national meetings and universities.
He has been member of the steering committee, as well as the Spanish coordinator, of several large-scale international trials in hypertension.
